Fay Shapiro, senior VP and group publisher, Infocom Group, parent of Bulldog Reporter, left the company on Sept. 1 to join a new website that will cover PR, marketing, advertising, investor relations and related topics.
Instructional materials will be provided in all areas as well as news of products available which will be for sale via the site. The site will be an aggregator of news and informational materials. Content will also be delivered via cellphones.
The venture is to be announced Oct. 1.
Shapiro, who served as publisher of the O’Dwyer Co. in 2005 and who managed celebration of the 35th anniversary of O’Dwyer’s Directory of PR Firms, was previously senior director of marketing and media relations, Market Wire, Los Angeles. She was publisher of Oxbridge Communications, New York, from 1989-2000 when she joined BurrellesLuce as VP of the Media Directory Product Group.
Infocom’s New York office was closed six months ago, although it maintained an informational connection via an apartment.
The company recently ended publication of its IR e-newsletter, IR Alert.
James Sinkinson, owner, is based in Oakland, Calif.
The ethics committee of the Society of Professional Journalists questioned the relationship, saying all financial arrangements between Infocom and CPRF should be disclosed.
Ethics committee member Peter Sussman said the relationship of Bulldog Reporter and the CPRF should be publicized in a “meaningful, noticeable and continuing way.” If this is not done, he said, there would be a suggestion of a “conflict of interest.”
O’Dwyer editor Kevin McCauley felt the relationship, however it is described or publicized, had a “foul odor.”
Shapiro said the new service will be like iTunes, a digital media player application that is used for playing and organizing digital music and video files. It has an interface to manage the contents on Apple’s iPod and iPhone lines as well as the iPad.
