The PRSA Foundation will posthumously honor Edelman founder Dan Edelman with its annual Paladin Award in New York on April 24.

Foundation president Lou Capozzi said the Paladin award, which was given to Harold Burson last year, goes to PR industry “champions” who inspire others in the profession. “The term Paladin, an heroic advocate of a noble cause in medieval times, certainly describes Dan well,” he said.

Edelman died in January at 92, more than 60 years after founding the industry’s largest firm. His son and Edelman’s CEO, Richard, will accept the award at the Bryant Park Grill event.

Edelman and Jonathan Blum, senior VP and chief public affairs officer for Yum Brands, an Edelman client, are co-chairs of the foundation event, which draws hundreds of PR pros each year. (Info: Wendy Gallo - wendy [dot] gallo [at] prsafoundation [dot] org.)

Burson in his acceptance speech last year urged corporations to be “social entities” that serve all stakeholders, not just investors.

Previous honorees included IBM PR chief Jon Iwata and former agency heads Marcia Silverman (Ogilvy PR) and John Graham (Fleishman-Hillard).
