Put down that bottle of Fiji Water, Mr. President. Or at least read the excellent “Fiji Water: Spin the Bottle” cover story in Mother Jones by investigative reporter Ann Lenzer, and then decide.
Lenzer wants to know how a plastic water bottle imported from a military dictatorship across the Pacific became the epitome of cool. She notes that we don't drink "Burma Water" that flows from a place ruled by military thugs, or "Libya Water," tapped from a land headed by the unstable Col. Q.
It’s up to you, Barack Obama, to decide your choice of water. If you must drink bottled water — a product that is an environmental nightmare — how about at least picking a domestic brand (Poland Spring)?
Tap water, of course, is the right thing to do. Carrying around a bottle filled with tap water would be an inspiration to millions of young people. Go for it, Mr. President.
Mother Jones shows that good hard investigative journalism is alive and well in America.
