Edelman PR Worldwide has picked up the $400,000 Cancun Convention
& Visitors Bureau account in a competitive pitch that
included Fleishman-Hillard.
VP Andrea Katsenes (Edelman/Chicago) told this website that
she will oversee the business along with fellow VP Jose Lima
in Miami. The firm's Mexico City office also will provide
support.
Edelman will reach out to travelers interested in romance,
arts and culture, golf/spa, business and eco-travel. The goal
is to increase the average stay by highlighting the destination's
various attractions (such as Mayan ruins).
Cancun currently attracts more than three million visitors
a year (half of which are Americans) lured mainly by its miles
of white beaches and 22,000 "first-class" hotel
rooms.
Edelman has done travel PR campaigns for the Government of
Mexico, Egypt, Scotland, Texas, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts
and the Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands.
Cathleen Johnson is the firm's executive VP for global tourism.
