Mark McKinnon, media director of President Bush's presidential
campaign, is receiving a $5,000 monthly fee from Vanity
Fair to provide it access to the White House. He told
the Wall Street Journal that his job is to make Bush
"look good."
McKinnon, who is managing partner at Public Strategies Inc.,
lined up VF's cover story that featured Bush and his "war
team" photographed by Annie Liebovitz.
PSI's website plays up McKinnon's close ties with the President.
It includes a quote from Bush calling McKinnon a "friend
and trusted ally." Said Bush: "Mark knows who I
am and he knows my heart most importantly. He views me as
a person as opposed to a product. I think that's important."
Prior to signing on with the Bush team, McKinnon was a partner
at Rindy and McKinnon, and before that was with Sawyer/Miller
Group. He was a staff songwriter for Kris Kristofferson in
Nashville in the early 1970s.
