PR pro for many years (7/23):
Lizzie -- get used to eating bread and water and making collect
phone calls and using the prison weight rooms.
Wise Old Man (7/22):
Our good friend in the media industry
asks a few good questions, ones better asked without the obvious
veil of contempt he places on this profession.
First, holding parties and getting a client on Page Six isn't
PR, so I really don't see the Grubman woman as being in the
same industry.
Second, the letter writer has obviously been away from the
planet for the past year because he doesn't know that the
creation of the Transportation Security Administration removes
the airlines from the checkpoint security business. That was
part of the problem before.
Alas, as with many reporters who view themselves as the next
Ann Coulter, facts are meaningless little things that only
get in the way.
NY PR Exec. (7/22):
There are real victims in this case. Those innocent people
hit by Lizzie Grubman. Ms. Grubman's only hope is to do real
prison time for at least a couple of months with true remorse
and repentance to the victims. This means telling the whole
truth in the case.
Washington PR pro (7/22):
Study the full front-page photo of Liz. There is not the faintest
hint of a tear. Liz may be/have been great at entertainment/celebrity
PR, but on this, her most important project, she is failing
miserably.
PR Honcho (7/22):
Imagine if during the Tylenol crisis in the early 80s, B-M
(the agency that handled the crisis) had advised J&J to
"say nothing" and then a year later told the CEO
to appear in front of the media begging tearfully forgiveness
for all the deaths that had resulted.
The point is there's a big difference between the hack "Sweet
Smell of Success" press agentry practiced by Grubman
and "counselors" of her ilk and true public relations
strategies and tactics employed by professionals who know
what they are doing.
Boston PR Pro (7/22):
Pretty poor reflection on your PR "counselor" when
one's lamentations are so obviously a sloppy PR move. She
should be advised to do nothing but keep her mouth shut.
Eric in the
Media Industry (7/19):
Does it really help the PR industry when a story like this
comes out. It just fuels the fire that all these PR people
do is spin a story and try to gloss over certain terrible
situations when it appears that their clients are headed for
trouble (like jail!). It is so obvious that even the media
and the lawyers picked up on this type of campaign strategy.
Isn't it a bad PR job when the team of PR people come up with
ideas to help Lizzie only to have it backfire on them on the
front page of the tabloids? Wouldn't it have looked better
if Lizzie came out yesterday and said - "Listen, I have
made a mistake and I am sorry. I did not speak up this last
year because I had been advised not to. But I feel now it
was the wrong thing to do. On top of that I am going to personally
donate $50,000 to the local MADD program and will be volunteering
there also."
Another "for instance." Do you really think that
Michael Jackson's team of PR pros sat in a meeting and said
"Let's resurrect MJ's career by starting a smear campaign
against his boss"
How come we never hear about really good stories that come
out of a PR crisis department, like:
American Airlines announced today that it has decided to
hire its own team of security staff for all its airport terminals
and has hired an inflight staff of armed security personnel
to ease passenger fears. Don't you think that the extra $25
million AA would have to spend to do this would easily be
recouped in this campaigns' first few months. Tell me what
flyer wouldn't pay an extra small amount for an airline flight
that has the BEST security in America (next to El Al)?
Crocodile tears (7/19):
My heart goes out to Lizzie. How sorry was she when she was
insulting people and ramming into them? Sure she's sorry,
now that she faces possibly eight years in the can.
