Qorvis Communications is distributing a "thank you to the U.S. military" statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government for bringing "freedom and democracy to our people."
The statement from Qubad Talabini, Kurdistan's U.S. rep, says Iraqis — and Kurds in particular — are in "debt to the American men and women in uniform for ending the decades of Saddam's tyranny and oppression."
Talabani notes that no American was either killed or injured as a result of hostile action in the Kurdish region, which is an "island of stability, prosperity and coexistence among Muslims, Christians and other religions."
Hinting at a future split from Iraq, Talabani looks for "increased diplomatic and economic relations between the U.S., Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."
He welcomes the State Dept. decision to establish a diplomatic consulate in Erbil, Kurdistan's capital city.
