David Carter, who heads corporate communications at Aetna, has been tapped by Magellan Health Services as senior VP of marketing and communications.
The 50-year-old Carter is slated to take up the role on Aug. 30 overseeing internal and external communications for the publicly traded Avon, Conn.-based healthcare plan manager. His duties include executive comms., PR, corporate brand management and community relations.
Magellan, which has worked closely with Aetna in the past, navigated Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2003. Revenue for 2009 was $2.6 billion.
Before 10 years at Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna, he worked in D.C. as VP for the office of communications of the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., an appointment under President Bill Clinton. He also worked on the agency side at Hill & Knowlton’s The Wexler Group unit and was a staff associate in the House of Representatives.
