Assistant White House press secretary Ben LaBolt has been tapped as communications director for Rahm Emanuel’s campaign for mayor of Chicago.
The 29-year-old LaBolt was Obama’s senate press secretary and a national spokesman for the presidential campaign before moving into the White House and handing press for the president and the White House counsel’s office (including the Sotomayor and Kagan Supreme Court confirmation pushes).
Politico reported that Emanuel was looking for someone with "Chicago roots and a combative side" for the post, while the Sun-Times has noted LaBolt is a LaGrange, Ill., native who knows Chicago politics.
Emanuel stepped down as White House chief of staff on Oct. 1 to pursue the mayor’s office, which is being vacated by Richard Daley.
