The DeKalb County School System in the metro Atlanta area has hired Cohn & Wolfe as it outsources its communications operations following an RFP process.
C&W/Atlanta will get a $262,000 annual fee from the district, which has 99,000 students.
The school system in late August issued an RFP for media relations, information transmission, publicity development and news distribution to reach its stakeholders.
The contract is in place of its seven-member PR staff, which is being eliminated.
The Echols Group was the only other firm pitching and it presented a $97K proposal for 55 hours a month, but the district estimated the work at closer to 160 hours per month.
