Fed Up In NYC! (9/27):
I can tell you for sure- it isn't BHO! He wouldn't know leadership if it smacked him in the face...
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (9/27):
Well, Fedup, you have told us whom you feel does not fill the bill, now try to do the opposite and find one who might, and you could have the same struggle.
Rene A. Henry, Fellow PRSA (9/27):
An excellent article, Joe, but unfortunately, some of our best leaders are now on the sidelines. The extreme partisanism by leaders of both political parties has driven out the moderates and those who could compromise and resolve issues.
Also, the office that must be held accountable is the Office of Presidential Personnel and its director. These people try to remain behind a Chinese Wall with complete ambiguity. Yet these are the people who appointed the senior and mid level managers who are supposed to be implementing Obama's policies but are not.
I served nearly 10 years in Federal service as both a political appointee and in a career position and the people named by the White House and in charge at so many departments and agencies are the most unqualified, unprofessional of any administration I have dealt with. Most could not get a competitive job with the same pay in the real world. This is the link that has prevented so many programs from being implemented.
The media is pointing fingers at the wrong people.

Rene, I agree with your take on why many potential leaders don't want to enter the political arena. With the likes of Rush, Sean, etc. and their constant attacks on anyone who doesn't agree with them, it's no wonder. Maybe the solution is to hand over the government to the tea partiers and Palins. After a few years of their nuttiness, maybe things will revert to saneness. Full disclosure: I didn't vote for Obama, (because I was suspicious of his foreign policy, which I still don't like, but after the McCain and Palin rants since the election, I'm glad they didn't get elected.
Wes Pedersen (9/27):
Rene, I was en route to take over a new division in USIA when word came that JFK had been shot. I drove immediately to the agency HQ to help out with all the coverage I was sure was being sent out around the world by our information staffers. I found that almost all of my people had taken the day off. Only a handful remain around to relay coverage by the wire services. I stayed, figured the services would be full of JFK but that few overseas would be familar with the new president, LBJ. I did a full intro to him, waded through files in the empty photo morgue, found what I needed and sent the story and pix overseas. I should have fired the staff, which had no record of real accomplishment, and used outside writers, designers and artists. One standard reaction from govt employees: "Oh, we've never done that before," as if that were a reason for not doing anything new.
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/11):
I was remiss in failing to add that this year's election cycle may well be our last chance for political dignity. And there is little reason to believe we shall succeed.
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (11/06):
It is clear Sen Mitch McConnell does not rank with the title of "Real Leaders" since his limited capacities only allow for limited ideas such as destroying a president instead of rebuilding a nation. There is a word for that: SHAME! |
