Sidney Harman, who bought troubled Newsweek from the Washington Post Co. last year and then merged it with Tina Brown’s The Daily Beast, died last night in Washington after a battle with leukemia. He was 92.
The audio mogul learned of his illness a month ago and remained active in his roles as executive chairman of Newsweek and chair of the Academy for Polymathic Study at the University of Southern California, according to a statement released from his family.
Harman was the husband of former California Democratic Congresswoman Jane Harman.
A private funeral is planned.
Celebrations of Harman’s life will be held in D.C. and Los Angeles at a yet undetermined date.
