MWW Group has hired Mark Bernstein to head what the independent shop is billing as PR’s first environmental and energy risk management consulting practice.

Bernstein was managing director at USC Energy Institute, where he facilitated research and worked to engage government and private sector executives in energy and environmental research.
Previously, he served as senior policy researcher at Rand Corp. and policy advisor to the Speaker of California’s Assembly. From `96 to `98, Bernstein was senior policy analyst for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
MWW CEO Michael Kempner says Bernstein’s background will help clients develop solutions that go beyond traditional communications.
His "strategic oversight will enable our clients to develop more effective communications to shareholders, decision makers and the public about their efforts to improve long-term sustainability goals," said Kemper in a statement.
MWW is O’Dwyer’s No. 7 ranked firm with 2010 fees of $34.8M.
