The University of Notre Dame’s VP of public affairs and communications will step down at the end of July after three years as the school consolidates its university relations unit.

The South Bend, Ind., institution has decided to merge its nearly 60-staffer office of public affairs & communications with the UR unit, under VP Lou Nanni. as of Aug. 1. Jan Botz, who heads the PA/comms. unit, is leaving the school.
The move combines PA and communications with development, special events, advisory councils and the school’s alumni association.
"I believe this change will enable us to take advantage of opportunities for integration and greater coordination, and I have great confidence in Lou’s ability to lead this team," said Rev. John Jenkins, president of ND, adding that Nanni has been involved in shaping the school’s messaging and helping to tell its story for years.
Botz, who is not an ND alumnus, exits after developing a position and branding program from the school set to be deployed this summer. She joined ND in 2008 after heading communications at Dow Corning, where she spent her entire career.
Nanni is a 1984 graduate of Notre Dame and has been with the university for 12 years in both offices.
