Right on, Kevin. I couldn't agree with you more. It's about time people were standing up to Wall Street. Only the rich, including those in my own family keep criticizing the movement. They keep saying, "What do they really want?" (As if they didn't know.) They know, but they don't want to know.
Brian M (10/13):
Let's just hope the political disaster that ensued for liberals that culminated in the late-1960s doesn't repeat itself and give rise to someone like Nixon, pointing his finger at tear gas and school shootings and pledging a return to law and order with no hint of irony or hipocrisy. Fortunately, I don't see any Republican intellectually close to capitalizing on such a situation as the early '70s GOP did.
GOPlease (10/14):
I love the Occupy Wall Street crowd is great. There's nothing like a bunch of whiny, defecating on police cars, loud, lazy gripers to remind that vast group of independents what the Democrats are all about -- and why this country's in the mess it is. Go OWS!!!
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/14):
Once more the unfortunate anonymous GOPlease offers nothing about either the reasons for the demonstrations or the fact that protest is the essence of democracy whieh he/she may struggle with. OTH, the entire protest operation could score massive PR value if it only showed volunteer crews cleaning up the areas where they occuupy and doing their best to maintain a modicum of cleanliness. Done this way, there would be not one whit of support for the likes of GOPlease who no doubt would absent himself/herself from any public march against Republicans to avoid exposure.
Fed Up In NYC! (10/17):
Lets face it people there is plenty of blame to go around! Wall Street greed- we all know about the banks- the government and its utter ineptitude- and of course US! How dare we blame others for handing us money- money we know full well we won't be able to pay back. Let's stop the blame game and get on with the task at hand. That of which is- right sizing government, doing away with ineffective and unwarranted regulations, enforcing sound and justified regulations, getting the country back to work, and taking ownership of ourselves, lives and communities!
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/18):
Fedup is righteously and rightly upset. However Fedup does not understand the degree to which the "we" he mentions have little power to do what he proposes. If Fedup would review the recent expose of the Koch brothers power operations that corrupt the system, he would understand why an apathetic citizenry has to make a lot more noise.
GOPlease (10/20):
This Doug Schoen OpEd shows the true colors of these folks -- only 15% of whom are unemployed (who knew?). Thirty-one percent think violence is okay and 65% want government to pay for college, healthcare and retirement -- all for no cost.
Yep, very mainstream -- and just like the Tea Party! Give me a break. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204479504576637082965745362.html

To GOPlease-- I don't know what good it is to point to an article that you, I, or anyone else agrees with. We all can find op-eds, editorials, etc. that reflect our beliefs and then say, "So there." Best for people to make up their own minds on all issues, regardless of what political party they support. Full disclosure. I am not affiliated with any political party and have voted both for Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, the latest being for the senator from Arizona, although I must admit that his after 2008 move to the far right has dismayed me, as has the too long-running act of his running mate. I am now glad they didn't win; too bad that Obama doesn't seem to have what it takes.
GOPlease (10/21):
I was referencing the survey (which was conducted by a Democratic pollster) -- not the opinions he was referencing. While Kevin and others revel in their lost youth (and the fact that they missed Woodstock), the survey shows these malcontents deserve no credence (even if some of their "views" do).
Kevin Foley (10/21):
GOPleased - After just a month since it began, one-third of the country supports OWS while 40% have unfavorable views of the Tea Party. Only 18% say they support the TP, three years after it appeared.
Once people get past all the anti-OWS rhetoric on Fox and see what the movement is really all about, support for OWS is sure to grow just as anti-war support grew forty years ago when people stopped listening to conservatives telling us we were winning in Vietnam.
Meantime, as people learn the TP is a completely bogus "movement," its support is sure to decline. You would do well to study history before sounding off here with personal attacks from your secure anonymity.
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/25):
It is obvious that the person called GOP has courage only for name calling but does not like the idea of democracy that ight be expressed in messages with which he/she disagrees. Sere the Tea Party to march on Washington, this unknown person would avoid surveys that show the involvement of the Koch brotrhers.
I think the OWS is amateurish in many ways as well but an expected response finally of a society that demands to know why government, both Republican and Democratic, can shovel out billions for unneeded and tragic wars, massive financial institutions and major corporations but thinks social programs are somehow wrong.
GOP, whoever he or she is, obviously has no problem either with Bush corporate socialism or Obama first said to the likes of big financial operations who forgot they were supposed to help minimize the mortgage tragedy they thejselves helped to create.
In one case, JPMChase Bank opted to buy new luxurious jets and build an expensive airplane hangar.
Fed Up In NYC! (10/26):
I have absolutely no problem with the OWS gang. They are 100% guaranteed their right to speak their minds, supported by the constitution.
Regardless as to whether we agree or disagree with their fragmented message (s)- the issue is the fact that we are bending the rules- such as having the proper permits, not being able to sleep in the park, defecating and worse in public- in the name of free speech.
They should be made to play by the rules- so not to negatively impact peoples daily lives. March on! Just do it the right way!
