Bill Thorne, senior director-community affairs at Wal-Mart Stores, is joining the National Retail Federation on June 1 as senior VP-communications and public affairs.
He will take over the group’s “Retail Means Jobs” campaign to showcase NRF members’ $2.5T contribution to the economy and support of 42M jobs.
At Wal-Mart, Thorne guided the discount giant’s push into urban markets and spearheaded the creation of its corporate, public and political advocacy network.
Previously, he was VP at DCI Group in charge of grassroots and advocacy programs and political and legislative grassroots director for the American Medical Assn.
Earlier this month, U.S. Chamber of Commerce vet Katie Wilson joined the NRF as VP-communications.
