Elizabeth Spiers, editor-in-chief of the New York Observer, is exiting at the end of the month to launch a site focused on the health and wellness category.
The founding editor of Gawker is to become a part-time consultant to the Observer Media Group’s creative services team beginning in September.
She joined the NYO a year and half ago and handled the overhaul of the print publication and build-out of the online entity.
NYO executive editor Aaron Gell will take over for Spiers, a job that also includes oversight of Politicker, GalleristNY, VelvetRoper and Betabeat.”
Jared Kushner, owner of Observer Media Group, praised Spiers for invigorating the newsroom, launching a slew of verticals and doubling web traffic.
“I’m grateful for her efforts, and I look forward to seeing what she does next,” said Kushner in a statement. |
