The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has cast Disney communications vet Jasmine Madatian in the new post of managing director, communications, starting July 30.

Longtime PR chief for the Academy Awards group Leslie Unger stepped down in December as communications director after 19 years.
Madatian was senior VP of publicity, promotions and field marketing for Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group, handling PR campaigns for movies like “Ratatouille,” “The Proposal” and “Up.” Earlier, she was senior VP, publicity, for Paramount Pictures (“Titanic,” “War of the Worlds”) and VP of publicity for Twentieth Century Fox ("The Last of the Mohicans," "Mrs. Doubtfire").
She will oversee Academy's publicity and corporate communications campaigns, including the Academy Awards, as well as outreach for its programming, education, preservation and other efforts.
At the Academy, she reports to CMO Christina Kounelias.
