A push to bring a minor league affiliate of baseball’s Atlanta Braves to Wilmington, N.C., is adding to its PR team to build support for the plan, which includes a city-built stadium costing from $35-40M.
Mandalay Baseball Development, a minor league operator of several teams, the Braves and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce are sharing the cost of hiring Raleigh-based Capstrat to bolster the effort.
The Wilmington Business Journal said Capstrat organized a visit with Wilmington officials to Durham, N.C., home of the popular minor league Durham Bulls and where the city built a stadium to revitalize its Tobacco district.
The city, Braves and Mandalay inked a memorandum of understanding last month to negotiate a public-private effort, which involves the latter two entities acquiring the Carolina League Lynchburg Hillcats franchise and relocating it to Wilmington.
The parties have until July 31 to work out a deal with an option to extend it.
