Greg Maurer, who was VP-corporate affairs at UPS and a top aide to House Speaker John Boehner, joins Facebook on April 2 as director of public policy as the social media giant revs up its D.C. outpost and eyes a public stock offering.
In a statement, Facebook said: “It’s imperative that we scale our team in Washington so that we have the resources in place to demonstrate to policymakers that we are industry leaders in privacy, security and safety.”
Maurer reports to Joel Kaplan,VP-public policy and head of the D.C. office.
For the Republican Congressman from Ohio, Maurer served as director of member services and counseled Boehner when he chaired the Education and Workforce Committee.
Facebook claims it’s committed to explaining how its system works and how it contributes to the nation’s record of innovation.
