megan libermanMegan Liberman, deputy news editor at the New York Times, is the new editor-in-chief of Yahoo News, which bills itself as the world's biggest news site.

She will focus on planning, original newsgathering, video and events.

Lieberman takes the spot once occupied by Hillary Frey, who left for NBCNews.

Yahoo says the hire is a major expansion of its capabilities and is part of its plan to bring "new voices and defining features to the site."

Before the NYT post, Liberman was deputy editor of the New York Times Magazine, in charge of digital features, strategies and political coverage.
