doug vanceFormer Univ. of Kansas media relations director Doug Vance has been named executive director of the College Sports Information Directors of America, the trade group for PR pros representing collegiate athletics.

Vance, who was 1993-94 president of the group, takes the reins from John Humenik, who stepped down in June after a five-year term as the group's first executive director.

COSIDA 2013-14 president Shelly Poe of Auburn Univ. chaired a search committee that landed on Vance. "Doug's leadership and consensus-building prowess will benefit our members in all divisions as we continue to grow as the strategic communicators for college athletics," she said.

Vance has association experience as CEO of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association for the past nine years. He previously handled PR and marketing at the Univ. of Kansas and sports information at Murray State Univ. and Austin Peay State Univ.

COSIDA was founded in 1957 and counts more than 2,900 members.
