MDC Partners posted a 13.6% increase in first quarter revenue to $267M on the strength of $53.1M in net new business wins during the period.

Net loss increased to $42.2M, in part due to refinancing debt which came with a $55.6M charge in the quarter. MDC says it will save $10M in interest annually with the new structure.

MDC's strategic marketing services group, which includes PR units like Allison + Partners and Sloane & Company, as well as its advertising agencies, posted a 14.8% revenue increase for Q1, including an 11.7% organic increase. MDC's data and research division, known as its marketing services group, saw revenue rise 10.8% during the period, or 6.6% organically.

Chairman and CEO Miles Nidal said the strong results made MDC increase 2013 revenue expectations between 7% and 9% with revenue up to $1.117B.

MDC reeled in new business from Charles Schwab, Xbox, Coty and Boar's Head during the period.
