Jim DelaneyPR services provider Marketwired has elevated COO Jim Delaney to the CEO slot, replacing 14-year chief Michael Nowlan.

Nowlan retains a board slot with a strategic role for the Toronto-based news release distributor, formerly known as Marketwire.

Delaney, a former president of sales of marketing for Dun & Bradstreet, joined the company last fall and MWW said the COO role was created to groom him for Nowlan's post.

The company said Delaney is charged with leading "transformational change" in the newswire sector with new products, services and relationships with social networks. Chairman Michael Graham said that includes the company's "evolution into a truly innovative social communications company."

MW traces its roots to Internet Wire, founded in 1994. After a name change in 2003, it was acquired in 2006 by Canadian newswire CCNMatthews, which took the MW name.

Delaney, a Naval Academy graduate, previously held senior posts with Verizon and JPMorgan Chase.
