Linda McMahon, the former chief of World Wrestling Entertainment who lost two expensive bids for the U.S. senate, has taken a part-time role with APCO Worldwide as a member of its international advisory council.

mcmahonWWE is a former client of APCO, which helped the high-profile company cope with criticism and expand its popularity through a non-partisan voter registration campaign aimed at youth.

APCO CEO Margery Kraus credited McMahon with growing the WWE empire from a small, regional company into a global, publicly traded brand in the entertainment sector. "Her firsthand experience in branding, rapid growth, market entry and transformation will allow our clients to have access to even greater insights as they deal with these issues that confront all successful business leaders," said Kraus.

APCO advisory council includes top PR executives from Down Corning, PepsiCo and Nike, as well as ex-top executives of Goldman Sachs, Vendome SA and National Public Radio.

McMahon and her husband, Vince, grew the WWE out of the purchase of Vince's father's company, Capitol Wrestling. Linda became CEO of the enterprise in 1997 and stepped down in 2009 to run for the senate. WWE posted first quarter revenue of $124M.
