Weine, a former attorney, earlier led communications and marketing for Newsweek and directed communications and branding at Consumer Reports.

"The Met deserves a public voice that reaches the widest possible range of audiences, which we are confident Ken can achieve," said director and CEO Thomas Campbell.

The New York Times noted Weine's tenure at the NYPL coincided with a controversial expansion, since scuttled. His appointment at The Met comes as the museuum pursues a $600M expansion of its modern art wing.

The Met is the largest art museum in the US and one of the largest art galleries in the world.
