joseph rippJoseph Ripp has returned to Time Warner as CEO of its soon-to-be spun-off publishing unit Time Inc.

Current CEO Laura Lang told TW she planned to exit after the spinoff, which was announced in March.

Ripp exits the CEO post at digital marketing and info services company OneSource Information Services to return to Time, where he was senior VP, CFO and treasurer in the 1990s before moving up to Time Warner and AOL.  He left as CFO of AOL in 2004.

TW CEO Jeff Bewkes called Ripp a seasoned executive "immersed in the intersection of digital, advertising and publishing for the past decade."

Bewkes added: :He is respected as a strategic leader who has delivered financial results throughout his career, and he also happens to have a thorough understanding of Time Inc.'s business."

Time Inc.'s properties include Sports Illustrated, People, Time and Real Simple, among others.
