Melwood, the Washington-area federal contractor that employs disabled people for custodial, landscaping and other jobs, has cast a net for a PR firm.

melwoodThe Upper Marlboro, Md.-based non-profit organization, which provides services to about 40 federal sites for revenue of more than $80M, wants to leverage its 50th anniversary in 2013 amid a yearlong PR effort.

"We believe there are many stories to be told that celebrate our growth, leadership and program successes," reads an RFP. "We also believe that there are national platforms and sources (traditional and new media) that will recognize our leadership as social entrepreneurs and position us as pioneers in the fields of horticulture and equestrian therapy and as advocates for people of differing abilities."

The organization also runs an inclusive camp at its 108-acre Maryland site, as well as a travel service for adults with disabilities, and a retreat center. Its largest federal pact is providing facilities maintenance at Fort Meade.

A gala event at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center is set for Nov. 9.
