Mike Donilon, a long-time advisor to Vice President Joe Biden, has joined AKPD Message and Media as head of its Washington office.

AKPD was the firm of President Obama’s former chief strategist David Axelrod.

Donilon served as political campaign consultant in high-profile races that elected Democratic Governors wins Doug Wilder (Virginia) and Jon Corzine (New Jersey) and Senators Jack Reed (Rhode Island), Claire McCaskill (Missouri), Mark Udall (Colorado) and Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire).

He was director of advertising for Obama’s re-election campaign.

Donilon’s brother, Tom, was until January Obama’s national security advisor and chief of staff in President Clinton’s State Dept.
