Cohn & Wolfe has named Gary Goldhammer executive VP in its digital innovation group. Goldhammer comes to Cohn & Wolfe from Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where he most recently served as U.S. creative director, overseeing and driving creative and integrated marketing strategies. Before that, he was Hill + Knowlton’s U.S. chief digital strategist. At Cohn & Wolfe, Goldhammer is responsible for leading the U.S. digital innovation group team, providing senior marketing strategy, driving digital excellence and championing business growth. He will also be a member of the agency’s global digital leadership team. Based in Los Angeles, he reports to chief innovation officer Chad Latz and president, North America, Laura Pesin Eder. “Gary’s solid track record of delivering breakthrough digital strategies and programming, team leadership, along with his experience merging the worlds of digital and creative truly sets him apart,” said Latz.

BAM Communications has appointed Saramaya Penacho to head its health tech practice. Previously a senior manager in the firm’s San Diego headquarters, Penacho will report to senior VP Katie Pierini. She will lead marketing and communications campaigns in enterprise and consumer healthcare technology, as well as in related wellness and science industries. Before coming to BAM, she held several executive positions at Edelman, leading social communications in such areas as healthcare insurance, cybersecurity, telecommunications and energy. “Saramaya’s exemplary client servicing and team leadership skills make her an ideal fit for the needs of our clients,” said Pierini.

The Public Relations Society of America’s Capital Region NY chapter welcomed new board members and officers at its January meeting, led by incoming president Heather Schechter. Schechter, director of marketing and business development at Sunrise Management & Consulting, succeeds Josh Poupore, senior vice president at Corning Place Communications. Kristin Legere, APR, director of marketing and education, New York State Builders Association, will serve as president-elect. Michael Mullaney, manager, public relations & digital communications, St. Peters Health Partners, was named the organization’s new treasurer.
