John Moody, executive VP and executive editor at Fox News, has exited the News Corp. unit.

Moody, who reportedly has retired, took heat for an opinion piece that he wrote last month, criticizing the US Olympic Committee for fielding a "darker, gayer and different" team.

Moody wrote the focus should be "on the winner of the race—not the race of the winner."

Published Feb. 7, the commentary drew widespread criticism and was removed from Fox's website two days later.

Fox issued a statement to say that Moody's article did not reflect its values or views.

Moody joined Fox in 1996.

CNN reports that Moody's departure is part of an executive shake-up of Fox that began with the ouster of CEO Roger Ailes in 2016 after he became embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal.
