Netflix today announced that former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have signed a multi-year deal to produce films and series that will be available to the media combine's 125M members in 190 countries.

The Obamas formed Higher Ground Productions to produce a mix of content that may include scripted/unscripted programs, documentaries and films.

“We hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world,” said President Obama in his statement.

Ted Sarandos, Network chief content officer, called the Obamas “among the world’s most respected and highly recognized public figures.”

He said the duo is “uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better.”
