Patrick Pexton, former ombudsman for the Washington Post, has moved to DC PR shop Connections Media as managing director to launch a content marketing operation.

patrick pextonPexton was managing editor for defense and foreign affairs at the National Journal before moving to the Post in the watchdog role through March 2013, when the Post eliminated the role after 43 years.

Connections CEO Jonah Seiger, a co-founder of Mindshare Internet Campaigns, said social media and native advertising have put a premium on quality content. He praised Pexton's talent for storytelling and "sophisticated understanding of the public affairs environment" in announcing the hire.

The firm has worked with Google, Starbucks, Center for American Progress and PhRMA among scores of clients.

He was previously a reporter and managing editor for The Military Times newspapers.
