IDG's McGovern Dies at 76

Patrick McGovern, founder of International Data Group, publisher of Computer World and PC World, died in Palo Alto at the age of 76.
IDG also published The Industry Standard, which was a magazine sensation prior to the dot-com bust.
McGovern is remembered for establishing the first publishing venture in China in 1980. IDG’s collection of more than 300 magazines is available in about 100 countries.
Walter Boyd, chairman of IDG, said McGovern’s mission was for the company to “make the world a better place through a medium of information technology.”
McGovern ranked No. 244 on the Forbes 400 list with a worth of an estimated $5.7B.
