The Brooklyn Navy Yard, a 300-acre industrial park that houses more than 330 businesses, is looking for a firm for marketing, PR and community affairs duties.

navyThe Navy took over an existing shipyard in 1806 and produced legendary warships such as the USS Monitor, the Union’s first ironclad, and battleship Missouri, site of Japan’s surrender in WWII.

The Yard, operated 24/7 during WWII with a workforce of 70K, and was decommissioned in 1966 and eventually sold to New York City.

Currently, it employs 7,000 people, generates $2B in economic output and another $2B in worker compensation.

The Yard has positioned as a hub of “green manufacturing” and leader in the sustainability movement.

It is home to Steiner Studios (largest stage on the East Coast), commercial artists, artisans and high-end designers with on-site manufacturing capabilities.

The PR firm also will promote the Yard’s BLDG 92, which runs school programs, tours and workshops and advocates for small businesses.

Richard Drucker, senior VP-external affairs, is running the search. He’s at rdrucker [at] brooklynnavyyard [com com.
