doug kuiperIlitch Holdings, the holding company for Little Caesars Pizza, baseball's Detroit Tigers and hockey's Detroit Red Wings that is playing a key role in redeveloping the beleaguered city's downtown, has brought in Doug Kuiper as VP of corporate communications.

Kuiper fills a post vacated by John Hahn, the longtime Red Wings PR exec who moved to Ilitch in September. Hahn is moving to Washington, D.C., the company said.

Kuiper makes the move from the chief marketing officer slot at Covisint, the IT company set up by Detroit's top automakers in 2000. He was previously with Compuware, which acquired Covisint in 2004, and earlier worked PR for for Wayne State University medical school's Psychiatry department.

Ilitch, privately held, family owned and built on the Little Caesars Pizza chain, also owns the MotorCity Casino, Olympia Entertainment and IH Gaming, among its units. It is heavily invested in redeveloping Detroit's downtown and the company said Kuiper's PR duties will include a "high level of focus" on the area known as the Events Center District.

Ilitch is headquartered in the historic Fox Theater, which it renovated in 1988.
