detroit metroThe 12-year-old government body overseeing the key Midwest hub of Detroit Metro Airport is on the hunt for PR pitches.

The $362M Wayne County Airport Authority, which also oversees the primarily freight and corporate airfield Willow Run Airport, released an RFP open through May 22 for strategic communications and PR counsel.

Detroit Metro is the second busiest hub for Delta Air Lines and ranks 11th in takeoffs and landings (430K) and 17th in the US with about 32.2M passengers in 2012. A University of Michigan study released in March said Detroit Metro had a $10.2B economic impact on the state, supporting more than 86K jobs.

The Authority doubled its PR and public affairs contracting budget to $311K to include an overhaul of its digital operations and brand.
