Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld a ten-month contract to court Congress on funding a "Maglev" (magnetic levitation) train in the northeast corridor from D.C. to Baltimore.
Japan, which is a leader in development of high-speed bullet trains, wants the proposed DC/Baltimore line to incorporate its advanced Maglev technology.
Akin Gump is providing the Ministry strategic advice and will assist it in communicating its position to Members of Congress, Transportation Dept. and other executive branch officials.
The outreach effort runs through March 2015.
