Baquet Treated for Cancer
Dean Baquet, winner of the New York Times power struggle that resulted in the ouster of Jill Abramson, the paper’s first woman executive editor, had a malignant tumor removed from his kidney on Saturday.
He sent an email today to share the news with staffers.
Baquet will spend a week away from the NYT, to help recover from the operation.
He described the procedure as a “minimally invasive, completely successful surgery.”
Doctors gave Baquet “an excellent prognosis,” according to his message.
The 57-year-old editor promised to keep-in-touch with management and report on any new developments.
He was managing editor before sliding into the top post on May 14.
