Mercury Public Affairs has acquired Chris Mottola Consulting, the home of former media adviser to Sen. Arlen Spector of Pennsylvania, the Republican turncoat.
Philadelphia-based Mottola has worked in the GOP campaigns of former President George W. Bush, Arizona Senator John McCain, former New York City boss Rudy Giuliani, ex-Sen. Bob Dole and two-time New York Gov. George Pataki.
From his Keystone State perch, he will helm Mercury's political advertising unit.
Mercury CEO Kiernan Maloney said in a statement that Mottola's "decade of work in campaign ads and political consulting is known throughout the US." His "leadership is critical as we establish an in-house paid media capability at Mercury,” he added.
The Omnicom unit has worked with Mottola in the past.
Mottola began his political career in 1980 as press secretary for the Fund for a Conservative Majority. He remained with Spector following his defection to the Democrats.
