Former Vice President Al Gore's global climate work through his "Inconvenient Truth" book and documentary have done a world of good, bolstering awareness of one of the globe's top challenges.

al goreThis writer is a huge fan of Gore's efforts on the environmental front. Gore should be a national treasure, but it's his sanctimonious personality that rubs millions of Americans the wrong way.

The legal battle between Qatar-based Al Jazeera, which took Current TV off Al's hands for a cool $500M, demonstrates Gore's "holier than thou" attitude.

The Arabs bought Gore's tiny cable network, which was going nowhere, for a huge amount of cash. That money won a tiny toehold in the US cable TV market.

Gore should be ever grateful to his Arab paymasters. Instead, he says he was short-changed by his cash-rich and now estranged partner.

In Al's mind, of course, the sale was never about the money. According to papers field in Delaware Court of Chancery on Aug 21, Al sold Current to Al Jazeera so he "could help foster deeper mutual understanding between the US and Arab World." Gag me.

Reluctant Al though had second thoughts about getting in bed with Osama bin Laden's propaganda platform, It was only after some mighty due diligence that included "consultations with several former senior US government officials" and apparent assurances from Al Jaz officials to convince Gore to pull the trigger. That's rich beyond belief.

The transaction, according to Al, allowed the Arabs to make a "large-scale entrance into the US mass marketplace." Gore flatters himself. If the Arabs wanted to make a big splash here, they wouldn't have wasted their cash on his piddling property.

Friendly advice for Al: tone down the self-righteousness.
