I'm sorry to bore you with an old subject that used to occupy almost all media just weeks ago: Edward Snowden.

edward snowdenWhatever happened to that guy? Mostly, at this point: Why don't we seem to care?

More to the point, however, is what has he been up to and how has he managed to function inside Vladimir Putin’s protective shadow?

After all, it was only a few months ago, Snowden exploded on all the media with declarations the NSA was doing all sorts of nefarious things to Americans and major international figures.

It caused a lot of distress among allied leaders snorting about how insulted they were by our snooping, ignoring of course their own intelligence activities.

But, after a protracted period of public nattering, other events seemed to take over the public and media as the world seemed to move toward newly promoted potential conflict.

So why are we no longer entranced by Ed Snowden? More than that simple question, here are some anyone related to media should be wondering:

1. How come we have yet to see a single story showing how and where Snowden lives where he gets his room and board? Once upon a time, LIFE magazine would have dispatch an intrepid crew fighting its way into Snowden’s living quarters if only to show how such a “celebrity” not only lives but gets his words out to the media who should find out more about his privileged life?

2. Who pays for his ongoing work and what are the accounts for these efforts in actual costs? Does he have some kind of expense account? Why is no one asking?

3. How does he communicate with his writing partner Greenwald? Does Greenwald visit Ed?

4. Who is courting Snowden-Greenwald for a book that is sure to happen, a deal fortified by a massive financial bonanza.

These are but a few questions that, for reasons it’s difficult to explain, have been neither raised nor answered by the kinds of reporters, who seem able to get all sorts of secrets exposed.

The puzzlement being what it is, the next level of wonder is whether there actually is something going on among media probers who ordinarily would hardly be cooperating on anything of this sort.

Surely, a self-declared public protector like Snowden knows there is a need for sound and ethical intelligence by government.

Why has he failed utterly to recommend how all of what he exposed might have been and could be done better….and why has no one asked him that question…at least for publication?
