John Mercurio, who was a member of Burson-Marsteller's PA and crisis group, is joining Purple Strategies as managing director.

john mercurioAt the WPP shop, Mercurio handled Fortune 100 companies involved in banking, energy, telecommunications, transportation and technology sectors.

Prior to B-M, he was executive editor of The Hotline, online political tip sheet, and political editor for CNN. He also reported for Roll Call and the Washington Times.

He will report to Mike Lake, former chief of B-M's US PA practice and head of Purple's PR unit.

Founded by political strategist Republican Alex Castellanos and Democratic counterpart Steve McMahon, Purple also added media veteran Cynthia Case to its line-up.

She joins from the World Bank, where Case worked as broadcast news officer and consultant for 18 years.
