Politico and German publisher Axel Springer today announced the acquisition of European Voice of Brussels to serve as springboard for a spring push on the Continent.

EV, which was founded by The Economist Group in 1995 and currently owned by French holding company Selectcom Finance, will be rebranded as Politico.

Wall Street Journal veteran Matthew Kaminski, who lived in Europe from `98 to `08, will guide a staff of 30 journalists. He will report to John Harris, Politico co-founder and editor-in-chief.

Bill Nichols, Politico's editor-at-large, will take that title in Europe. Carrie Budoff Brown, Politico's senior White House reporter, is slated for the associate editor/senior reporter positions. Florian Eder, EU correspondent for DIE Welt, will become managing editor.

There will be a Politico: EU website, weekly newspaper, European version of Politico Pro subscription offering and conferences slated for Brussels, Paris and Berlin.

Kaminski said the goal is to be "Europe's leading publication on politics and policy" with a reporting footprint across the continent.

Launched in 2007 by Robert Allbrittton, Politico reaches 7M unique visitors each month.
