steve immergutSteven Immergut, an agency veteran who led external affairs for the US Food and Drug Administration, has moved to Bayer Corp. in a new post to head its US pharmaceutical business communications.

Immergut exits FDA as acting associate commissioner for external affairs for Bayer, where he'll be VP and head of communications for Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals stationed in Washington, D.C. for the Whippany, N.J.-based drug maker.

Kathleen Quinn has taken on Immergut's acting associate commissioner role at FDA.

Immergut was previously assistant commissioner for media affairs at the FDA, heading its media relations, and earlier a senior associate for Booz Allen Hamilton, handling government and private sector healthcare communications. He also directed Hill+Knowlton Strategies' DC healthcare unit and did agency stints at Tonic Life Comms., GCI Group and Health!Quest Global Comms.

Immergut, who started his career with USAID, reports to SVP and head of communications Raymond Kerins at Bayer.
