The enterprise zone set up to draw business to housing crisis-ravaged San Bernardino County in California is on the hunt for PR counsel as it pushes forward amid the bankruptcy of the City of San Bernardino.

The San Bernardino Valley Enterprise Zone, which targets economically distressed areas mostly in the the cities of Colton and San Bernardino, released an RFP on April 18 for a PR firm to create a "consistent" media presence and publicize its efforts to attract and retain jobs in the area.

The city of San Bernardino is being closely watched nationally following its Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing last year amid financial woes exacerbated by the financial and housing crises.

The enterprise zone, funded by voucher fees for its hiring tax credit, has spent the last six months stressing that it is financially stable and unaffected by the city's bankruptcy filing. It has recently worked with PR shop Desmond & Lewis of Yucaipa, Calif.

The RFP covers media relations, monitoring, social media and communications counsel to the zone staff, steering committee and board.

Proposals are due May 7. View the RFP (PDF)
