Liz Fischer, who oversaw communications for NBC News, has moved to music rights manager BMI as VP of corporate communications and marketing.

liz fischerShe takes over for Silvia Davi, who stepped down last year for the top communications slot at the Food Bank for New York City.

BMI, or Broadcast Music Inc., licenses the works of songwriters, publishers and composers, but has faced pushback, along with its major competitor ASCAP, from publishers and artists unhappy with revenues from streaming services like Pandora.

Fischer , based in New York, exited NBCUniversal after 19 years in December 2013 as VP of comms. for NBC News and after a stint as VP/ corporate comms. for the NBCU mothership.

At BMI, she reports to president and CEO Mike O'Neill.

BMI claims to be the largest music rights organization in the US by representing 8.5M works and more than 650K creators.

Last year, the US Dept. of Justice said it would review the 73-year-old consent decrees that govern BMI and ASCAP, which together collect around $2B in royalties each year.

BMI has PR directors in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville.
