Rob Nicol, VP-corporate affairs at Canadian Tire, is now chief spokesperson for Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper.
He succeeds Jason MacDonald, who is joining Hill+Knowlton's Ottawa office.
Nicol handled communications, government relations and charitable contributions for Canadian Tire.
Founded in 1922, the Toronto-based company operates 1,700 retail outlets selling automotive, sporting goods and hardware products.
Before joining the retailer, Nicol was VP-communications & government relations for 407 ETR, the privately-owned toll highway serving the Toronto area, and director of communications in the office of Ottawa's premier.
