Katy Burne, a U.K. J grad who reports for the Wall Street Journal, is 2015 president of the New York Financial Writers Assn. which, after many years, is switching its "Follies" show from the Marriott Marquis to the Hilton.

katy burneBurne, who has covered bonds and derivatives for five years for the WSJ and Dow Jones newswires, has been in the cast of the "Financial Follies" since 2010. Previously managing editor of Derivatives Week, she has a post-grad diploma in magazine journalism from Harlow Journalism Center, U.K., and a BA from University of Newcastle-on-Tyne, U.K.

NYFWA manager Britt Tunick told the annual meeting that because of "outrageous pricing issues," the "Follies" is being switched from the Marriott Marquis to the New York Hilton Midtown and the show will be a week earlier this year — Friday, Nov. 13.

Tunick cited electrical costs for the show, annual jumps in meal prices and "other pricing issues."

NYFWA's balance of $511,486 as of Dec. 31, 2014 is lower than the $680,574 a year ago because the group did not pay the Marriott bill for the 2013 show until February 2014, she said.

Member Irene Weissman, who was in the 2014 "Follies," asked why professional actors who are in the show received cast gifts along with members in the cast.

Tunick said that the pros "work for very little" and the cost of cast gifts is "negligible." Seven of the 14 cast members on stage in the 2014 "Follies" are professional actors and actresses. They are shown in a picture taken by Christine Albano.

Only NYFWA members were in the cast for many years. Dozens typically took part in the shows.

The group each year gives $3,000 scholarships to ten students who are interested in financial journalism.

Current membership includes 229 active members; 33 associates; 30 life actives; 18 life associates and 48 students for a total of 358.
