Ernie Hemmings, who evolved a mimeographed mail order catalog for his Massachusetts auto parts shop in 1954 to Hemmings Motor News, died Feb. 25 at a nursing home in Quincy. He was 88.

HMN remains "a must-have" for car collectors and lovers of classic autos. The most recent issue of the now American City Business Journals-owned has more than 550 pages.

The magazine pitches itself as the world's biggest special interest auto publication covering antique, vintage and muscle cars.

Hemmings sold HMN and its 40K subscriber list to a Vermont classic car fan in 1969.

It now has circulation of more than 200K.
